Púrpura Chess

This blog is basically a musical site. Here we talk about the music we like, using different angles. As dear and missed Jon Lord once said: “Music is the highest kind of Art that exists”. I think the same way too.

Leonor Marchesi: “Nessun Dorma”. Absolutely awesome.

A few days ago the Culebra Rock Fest Presentation Party was celebrated in Madrid. The venue was The Rockers, an intimate pub near Fuenlabrada. Some musicians were invited to play live in acoustic. The singer Leonor Marchesi and the guitarist Luis Romero were in the bill. Each group had between fifteen and twenty minutes to play a mini acoustic set. When the time came to Leonor and Luis to perform, they settled above the stage, tuned their guitars and started to play. Only a few seconds to told the crowd that they opened with Italia in their minds and the first chords of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” were played in front of a surprised audience.

                                                 Leonor Marchesi and Luis Romero.

As soon as she opened her mouth the lucky audience was able to check that the vocal interpretation of Leonor Marchesi (ex Púrpura and Santa singer) was incredible, full of power and passion. The song barely lasted two minutes but was enough to understand the quality of her voice. Leonor did an acrobatic vocal work, playing different tones with astonishing ease. In a couple of words: absolutely awesome.
Here is the beginning of this show. It includes “Nessun Dorma” and “Templario”, this track’s included in the third Long Play of Spanish band called Santa and recorded in 86. Please understand that’s recorded with a mobile phone. The image quality is not bad, but sounds very good. Judge by yourself and enjoy.
